I know, I know. Let's just start out by stating the obvious...I know it is no longer close to the new year as we approach the middle of February. However, that is kind of the point of this Soul Talk Wisdom. Whether or not you may make new year's resolutions, it can sometimes put a lot of pressure on ourselves to reach these goals. Often we joke about how our resolutions will only last a while, but that doesn't have to be the case. I have an old giant sticker that I have hung in my office for years. It states, "Each day is a chance for a new start." Instead of waiting for a certain day (maybe it's Sunday because that's the start of the week) or instead of waiting for a certain event to make a change, why not start now. Seriously, why not now?
Each day is a chance for a new start.
What is a change that you would like to make for yourself?
One of mine is to start a morning ritual that includes writing morning pages while having a cup of tea and then doing a 5-10 minute meditation to g round myself before going to work. I have tried a few times, but then I get discouraged when I don't write the morning pages every morning for a week or when I wake up too late and don't get a chance to do any of it. Sometimes it makes me feel like giving up, but tomorrow is a new day, and really, it's ok to give yourself some grace.
We are constantly looking for ways to make ourselves better. This can take on many forms. We might want to be "better" in our businesses by trying to attract our ideal client. We might want to be "better" at a certain aspect in our business (marketing, social media, networking, etc.). We could also want to be "better" in our personal lives by seeking out education, quizzes that teach us more about ourselves, or others that we can relate to so that we are able to get a new perspective on things that we get stuck on. No matter how "being better" is defined for you, I want you to know that you can start now, and it does not need to be perfect.

If you would like to explore more ways to take small steps in creating strategies for yourself, we would love to have you join us in an honest, intimate setting at the Natural Wanderer Retreat. We know that you can make changes on your own, but if sometimes making those changes seem scary (because it can be!) or you might not be sure how to start, this would be a really great opportunity to be among friends. Together we will be replacing the words "I can't" with "I can and I will." We will be learning how to identify and overcome barriers holding us back from making changes that we are yearning to create for ourselves, myself included. We are all on similar creative journeys, even if sometimes it feels lonely. Let's have some honest conversations around change.
Let's have some honest conversations around implementing change, which we will at the Natural Wanderer Retreat. It would be perfect with you there.
In the meantime, let's take some action steps together:
- Choose something that you would like to change to help make yourself better at something (pick something small for this first time), and remember, becoming better at something means learning, trial & error, and giving yourself grace.
- Write down what you chose.
- Place it somewhere that you will see it everyday.
- Set aside between 5-30 minutes each day for a week to work on your chosen activity.
- At the end of the week, reflect on what you did well, what you would like to adjust for the following week, and write down two things you are thankful for while implementing your new change.
We'll check in with each other in a week, and if you miss one day, no worries, just make sure that you try again the next day.
Making small steps toward making yourself better in a an area of life or business can happen today. It's not easy, let's not sugar coat this, but is is possible. You are able to make changes. If make change can seem overwhelming, this is one of the things that we will be addressing at the Natural Wanderer Retreat. We know that making changes can be difficult especially when we are trying to implement anything new, trust us, we have been there and are still there sometimes. However, these changes can be made at any point in the year, and it can be empowering to even take little steps toward making something better. We would love to have you join us so that we can chat in person. We can talk about the difficulties of breaking old habits and starting new ones, our fears of making changes even when we know they are good for us, and we can encourage each other to continue on anyways. You are not alone in this process, and we believe in the good that will come your way. Today is the day to start new.
